Alan Melot, LPC

Alan Melot

Alan Melot is a Licensed Professional Counselor who does not like writing in the third person, so he is not going to write in the third person any more. I'm a real person and I'm writing this about myself. Awkward.

I'm supposed to say something compelling in this space, like convince you that I'm your type of therapist. Dude, if you suffer or struggle, I'm here to tell you that doesn't make you a weirdo, it makes you one of us, a normal human person. If you struggle at work or school or home or with your family or inside your own head or with your body or with nasty things that have happened to you, maybe I can help you process through some of that. If you want to do better with whatever it is, odds are we can get there.

As a dedicated Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) therapist, my mission is to help you live a more fulfilling and meaningful life. Although it'll suck sometimes, we'll work together so you can pivot towards your difficult thoughts and feelings, develop psychological flexibility, and align your actions with whatever matters most to you.

Therapy is my second career, my wife is currently working toward her doctorate in Dentistry at KCU-Joplin, I have a couple of dogs and a couple of motorcycles, I like pina coladas and getting caught in the rain... Oh wait, that last part isn't me. I like to laugh. I'm not super formal. I take risks in life and in therapy, like in this bio... I'm willing to drop the professional veneer and let you see who I really am in the hopes that we can be authentic together.

I've learned that I do well with folks who are really up against the hardest parts of life, who are suicidal or are self harming, who are struggling with their marriage or who are having a hard time finding their way.
I'm compassionate, and my non-judgmental approach aims to help you embrace your difficult thoughts and feelings while helping you do what actually matters to you. Now I'm repeating myself. Together, we can navigate your journey toward a more fulfilling life. Come see me, we'll have fun. Or maybe it'll be a slog through the swamplands of your soul. Either way, we'll do it together.
